Is Fruit Really Bad For You?

August 18, 2013

I have read so many conflicting things about whether or not fruit is really bad for you. Some folks say most fruit passes right through you or digests in 90 minutes or so while other foods take much longer so that’s supposed to be good. Other people say it is nothing but sugar and should be avoided at all costs because sugar is bad. I’m having a hard time fighting the cultural beating-in of the notion that, well, fruit is good food. I’m really looking for some comments here, I certainly feel better when I have some fruit in my diet (bananas and pineapple specifically) but I really don’t want to sacrifice all the weight loss work I’ve done by eating stuff I think is good for me but really isn’t.  Thoughts? Am I just being overly obsessive here? Probably.

  1. Fruits have many positive effects on the body, especially berries. Fruits contain phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Because of this they have awesome detoxifying, catabolic and alkalizing qualities in them. They can also compliment high protein meals. If you’re looking for lower sugars in your fruit, you can always try fermentation. Ultimately, our bodies have grown accustomed to fruits as a basic part of our diet. Our bodies respond best when we consume them on an empty stomach, but should not be used as a main meal, instead they should be used more for complimenting other foods – as stated above.

    • Got any links to back up it just opinion? Either way is ok. 🙂

      • Yeah, its from The Warrior Diet book; I don’t have a specific page. 🙂

      • I’m going to have that guy write that you should jump off a bridge just to see if you would. 🙂

  2. I read it and adapted it into to what works best for me. I think the same applies for any diet. I don’t think anything in book is harmful, unlike jumping off a bridge. 😀

    • It’s not its the way you say it , all cult-like. 🙂

      • I was only paraphrasing whats in the book. 🙂

  3. If I’m using fruit as my treat I’ll accept that I’m perhaps taking in something that’s not technically good for me versus the crap that people normally treat themselves to. At some point you have to live a little.
